Shirley Wayne, the second of three children of Jack Frank and Anna Angelina Clover Falkenberg, was born in Caldwell, KS on August 28, 1935. Wayne attended Caldwell High School through his junior year with the class of 1955. After that year he joined the United States Navy, serving for four years. He later got his GED.

After his time in the service, Wayne drove trucks for a living. While in Texas, he became very interested in a waitress named Geraldine Krpec. They dated for four or five years. On October 31, 1964 Gerry and Wayne were married in Wichita, KS.

For 33 years before retiring, Wayne worked for Cessna Aircraft in Wichita. Wayne loved to camp and fish, go to car races, play handheld electronic games, and be around his family and friends. He also collected caps.

While on a trip to Houston, Wayne suffered a heart attack and died at a hospital in Houston on December 5, 2008 at the age of 73.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Angie Falkenberg, his older brother, Ronald Falkenberg, and a nephew, B.J. Shaffer. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Geraldine, of their home in Wichita and by a sister, Alberta Shaffer, of Caldwell. Numerous nephews and nieces also survive.

Friends may call at the Mortuary from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2008.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 11, 2008, at the Schaeffer Mortuary Chapel, Caldwell, Kansas. Interment will be in the Caldwell City Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in Wayne’s name to St. Judes Children’s Hospital.

I'll never forget how Wayne enjoyed our 50th Class Reunion, even participating in the silly skits we put together. Since he and I were neighbors all thru school I have many winderful menories of the entire Falkenberg family, Then I met Gerri and I felt like she had been a part of that family forever.
