On November 30, 1942 in Greenport , Long Island, NY, James and Helen Mazzaferro gave birth to their first of two sons, James Jr. (A.K.A. Jim). Jim grew up in Mattituck, Long Island, NY surrounded by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Jim enjoyed playing the saxophone in high school with “Tommy and the Gators.” Jim was also a seasoned accordion player in his day. Jim worked after school at Captain Jim’s Fishing Station for the not-so infamous man named “Newt”.

Jim graduated from Mattituck High School in 1961 and then enlisted in the United States Air Force. He completed four years with the Air Force, nearly two of them in Korea. He returned from Korea to McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, KS, where he met his future wife, Nancy Crumbliss. They married in Caldwell, KS on September 5, 1965 before making their first home in Mattituck. Jim worked for Grummon Aerospace while in Long Island.

They returned to Corbin, KS five years later where they lived for 37 years. Jim worked for the Kansas Gas Service Company and retired from the company in 2003 after nearly 35 years of service. Jim enjoyed working around the yard, swimming in the pool and at the Low Water Bridge, spending time with friends, black powder shooting, and most of all, spoiling his daughter, Amber Darlene, who was born in 1971 and his grandson, Xander James Servis, who was born in 2004. Being “Gramps” was most important to him. Anyone who spoke to Jim since 2004 knows about his grandson.

Jim and Nancy moved to Caldwell in 2007. He died at home the morning of October 31, 2008.
