James E. Patton passed away at his home Thursday morning, December 18, 2008. He was 90 years old. James was born June 10, 1918 in the home of his parents Joseph S. and Lola E. (Tibbits) Patton. James was the oldest of four children.
After graduating from Caldwell High School with the class of 1938, James went into farming with his father.
James met Lela McGrew when he was a groomsmen and she was a bridesmaid in a wedding in Blackwell, OK. The couple was married May 1, 1948, establishing their home in the North Star Community of Grant County, Oklahoma. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2008.
James was a farmer his entire life. His greatest passions were his registered shorthorn cattle and his horses. He was a member of the American Shorthorn Association, the Caldwell Saddle Club, and was a former member of the Grant County Fair Board. He also served on the election board in his local precinct in Grant County, Oklahoma.
He is survived by his wife Lela of the home; son Jimmy of Medford, OK, daughters Ruth Campbell and husband Steve of Hunter, OK, and Lola Patton of Dallas, Texas; two grandsons Timothy and Eldon Campbell of Hunter, OK; one brother Don and wife Anna Mae Patton of Caldwell, KS, sister Laverne Amend of Caldwell, Kansas; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Lucille Bruey, and brother- in- laws Edwin Bruey and Reverend Glenn Amend.
Friends may call at the mortuary from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2008 and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, December 21, 2008.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 22, 2008 at the Schaeffer Mortuary Chapel.
Memorials may be given in Jim's name to the Sumner County District #1 Hospital Ambulance Fund.
